champagne brunch cruise

when my boyfriend was in town this past weekend, we went on a champagne brunch cruise around manhattan on a almost-new luxury yacht appropriately named the "manhattan".

even the weather was overcast and a bit on the chilly side, it was still a beautiful ride. we pushed off from pier 60 in the huge complex of chelsea piers around 11am with about 20 other people. the yacht is pretty new (a year old or so, i think) and it is beautiful. the brunch was way better than described on the website. it sounded like it was going to be a continental breakfast mostly but turned out there was a waffle maker (the waffles were quite tasty), honeyed ham and quiche among the bagels, cold cuts, pastries and etc. and aboard the manhattan is a small but efficient bar! hello, i love drinking on a boat. good thing i don't get seasick! we headed southerly from the chelsea pier down to battery park, got a close view of the statue of the liberty, up the east river, went under the brooklyn bridge, went around the top portion of manhattan (i was able get a glimpse of my apartment building on 95th st) and down the hudson river. it was quite romantic! oh especially since there was a proposal made aboard the yacht! i actually didn't know what happened but next thing i knew, people were clapping and i heard people say, "they just got engaged" and "he proposed on the deck"! i had to nudge my boyfriend and make sure he heard what happened. *wink*

i found this great deal on goldstarevents.com, which i refer to on a regular basis. (it's one of my "daily browsings"!) originally, this brunch cruise is usually $75 but at the time of purchase it was only $40! I think this could have been a one time deal, but i did see a different cruise which is even cheaper (without the food, unfortunately) for $25! still a great deal, considering this sunset cruise sells for $50.
